Security Services Officer - Crown
I grew up with my family in Thornbury and still live there. I was working as a lifeguard at the Northcote YMCA and I knew Charlie (Charles Williams) from around the community. He asked me whether I was interested in working in security at Crown and it went from there.
Security has a lot of different sides to it. Of course, you have to make sure customers always feel safe and you have to be really aware of what’s around you all the time. But it’s also about helping people. Crown is a big place, so I do a lot of showing people where they need to go and escorting them there.
You realise pretty quickly that when you’re working in security, you’re the first person people see when they come in and the last when they leave, so you have to give people a good impression.
You get the feeling that Crown respects you because everything is so organised. You’re well trained before you start and once you’re working, you’re always in a different part of the complex so it’s never the same. Also, there are cameras everywhere and you’re never by yourself, so you feel safe.
Having a dry-cleaned uniform and a free meal for each shift makes you feel good too. I’ve also met a lot of people working here and made some really good mates.
I think I’ve become more mature and more responsible than I was. I’m happy to work on weekends. My family and friends really respect what I do and that feels good.
If you get the opportunity, you should do it. It’s a great place to work and a great stepping-stone as well. Having Crown on your resume is awesome.
