Karen Sheldon Training & Development - Head Office

GenerationOne VTEC

Karen Sheldon Training & Development has been contracted to train 250 Indigenous Australians for a guaranteed job before December 2015. The VTEC model has a strong focus on retention rates and trains job seekers for long term employment opportunities.

The Future Stars Indigenous Employment Program is aimed at providing work ready skills to

Indigenous jobseekers. It is based on many solid years of practical experience and focuses on participants developing the drive, practical expertise and social skills to allow them to enter the mainstream workforce and become productive and motivated employees.

The program begins with 4 weeks of life skills and basic work ready training during which the focus is on building self-esteem and the capacity to work.

Participants then have the opportunity to decide on an industry stream where they are engaged in job specific training before being placed in one of the many jobs put forward by our cohort of committed employers.

Streaming and job specific training covers the following industries;

• Hospitality

• Retail

• Heavy Industries

• Trades

• Health & Community Services

• Childcare

• Aged Care

• Administration

Participants who feel they are unable to meet mainstream employment expectations have the option of selecting an intermediate pathway where they are employed in one of our many “incubator” businesses during which time they receive more intensive assistance to build their capacity to work.

All participants receive intensive mentoring once employed and mentors work closely with JSAs, RJCPs and other social service providers to ensure vital wraparound assistance is provided to ensure successful retention of employment.

Participants in the Future Stars Indigenous Employment Program begin a Cert II in Hospitality through the Karen Sheldon Catering RTO.

After industry streaming selection occurs, participants then begin required job specific training through our network of accredited and non-accredited training providers in the fields of:

• Heavy Industries

• Trades

• Health & Community Services

• Childcare

• Aged Care

• Business
