I teach a small class of Aboriginal students. They're all in Year 11 and many of them struggle with literacy and numeracy - but they're achieving good results and we're identifying clear pathways into careers for them (not just jobs). But my greatest concern is for those students who shrug their shoulders and show little passion for anything. Many of these students dont' seem to appreciate the positive impact they could have if they created a fire in their bellies. Instilling passion, drive, determination and creating an understanding that their future is in their hands is crucial.
