I am a white mature aged female, born overseas in an English speaking country and raised in Nth Qld. I was not educated in any way about the traditions and cultural background of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (in spite of living and working with many) and only found out late in life about their culture and the difficulties they face. I fully support your movement and urge you to offer as many educational opportunities about cultural awareness as possible, in a non-threatening environment. I had the opportunity to ask questions where the Indigenous participants were very generous, non-judgmental and not offended. This was necessary to help answer many of the questions white people had but were too afraid to ask because of being perceived as racist. Not a lot of us have had this chance. (The course I attended was run by James Cook Univeristy in Townsville at SIAS). It will help demystify many of the issues the white employers of my age have and allow them to develop relationships, mentoring and job opportunities. I sincerely hope it will have the effect of matching all the effort and commitment from Indigenous people. All the very best with this Policy.
