CONSULTATIONS

GenerationOne and the Australian Employment Covenant engaged with many different stakeholders around Australia in a series of Big Yarns and Little Yarns held between May and September 2011 as part of our consultations in developing the Vocational Training and Employment for Careers (VTEC) policy. Organisations and individuals were also invited to make written submissions.

We were seeking feedback on the Indigenous Skills and Training for a Career discussion paper so we could better understand the issues facing employers and to inform the final VTEC policy paper, which proposes a new way of connecting Indigenous job seekers and employers with vacancies. Participants who attend these events and consultations were asked to speak openly and honestly about their experiences, with the aim of engaging the audience, and stimulating debate and discussion. More than 1000 people attended events around Australia, and 7000 people watched the forums that were streamed over the internet.

Little Yarns were hosted with organisations and employers in Perth, Brisbane, Darwin and Adelaide.
