Desert Pea Media is a non-profit community media that puts reconciliation into action. Directed by both indigenous and non-indigenous artists, Desert Pea Media has delivered innovative communtiy media programs in remote and regional Aboriginal communities since 2003.
Desert Pea Media believes in cultural sustainability. We work with platforms of music, hip hop, film, theatre, circus and performance as tools to re-engage marginalised young people with communtiy and culture. Our work focuses on languages and forms that are relevant to young people as a way to communicate and advocate awareness of cultural and social issues in Australia today. Desert Pea Media programs, unlike many educational processes today, set our young people up to succeed. Our work is about identity, pride and empowering communities at a grass roots level. Also our outcomes are about educating and empowering all Australians through storytelling, media and popular artforms. We believe in a balanced relationshsip between indigenous and non-indigenous Australian contemporary culture.
