NSW YMCA joins the Generation for Change

NSW YMCA joins the Generation for Change   In Sydney today the New South Wales YMCA signed an Australian Employment Covenant, a GenerationOne initiative.   The YMCA has joined the generation for change with its commitment of 500 jobs for Indigenous Australians over the next five years.   Warren Mundine, GenerationOne Chairman said, “there is only one way to tackle welfare dependency in Indigenous communities and that’s to give people the best viable alternative – a career.”    Over the next five years the YMCA will be offering jobs in before and after school care sites, recreation centres and campsites across NSW.    “GenerationOne is thrilled to partner with the YMCA.  The YMCA has the capacity to change whole... GENERATION ONE WELCOMES GOVERNMENT DISCUSSION PAPER

GENERATION ONE WELCOMES GOVERNMENT DISCUSSION PAPER   GenerationOne today welcomed the release of the Government’s discussion paper and its call for submissions regarding Changes to Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) Assessment and Funding Processes.   The announcement reflects GenerationOne’s core policy goal: that training must be linked to a real job. The Government discussion paper will review the funding and assessment process associated with IEPs.  Last week GenerationOne founder, Andrew Forrest, called on the Government and all policy makers to harness their commitment to Indigenous employment and demanded an end to the training for training’s sake model, which traps job seekers in a cycle of welfare dependency.     ... GENERATIONONE CELEBRATES ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY

GENERATIONONE CELEBRATES ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY   GenerationOne celebrated its third anniversary at Parliament House today with a senior executive’s breakfast, hosted by founder Andrew Forrest and Chairman Warren Mundine. Representatives from over 100 employers, which partner with GenerationOne, shared their Indigenous employment experiences with Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott. Since the launch of GenerationOne three years ago, 336 employers have committed over 60,000 jobs across Australia. “This remarkable outcome was achieved through the Australian Employment Covenant and its original ‘50,000 jobs campaign’, which now continues as a GenerationOne initiative,” said Warren Mundine, Chairman, GenerationOne.  ...
