Nagle College will joins schools all over Australia in raising their voices to end indigenous disparity in Australia.
Students at Nagle College will be working together to enter the GenerationOne Hands Across Australia School Competition for the chance to win $15,000. GenerationOne is a movement to bring all Australians together to end the disparity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in one generation.
The Hands Across Australia School Competition is run in partnership with the Australian School of Performing Arts.
The competition encourages schools to perform and film their own version of the GenerationOne then song Hands Across Australia, or create their own song, which addresses their response to indigenous disparity. Winners of each category will receive $15,000.
Nagle College has entered the second category with the song Mother Land, which was written for the Nagle Rainforest Project. The song is a collaboration of staff, students and community groups.
Filming for the video clip has been taking place at the college and sites around Bairnsdales area.
"This is an exciting time for everyone involved in this great initiative," Nagle College's director for music. Nigel Plunkett said.
"The competition has enabled so many of our students to showcase their talents in a variety of musical endeavours, from composing, singing, filming, choreography, editing and so much more. The end results should be something we can all be very proud of."
