TOWNSVILLE Enterprise has joined with mining magnate Andrew Forrest to promote a program whichaims to secure 50,000 sustainable jobs for indigenous Australians.

Chairman John Bearne said yesterday Mr Forrest would be guest speaker at next month's TownsvilleEnterprise-Ergon Energy Business Leaders' Forum and would use the visit to promote the program.

The campaign began last year and has commitments for more than 30,000 positions across Australia.

Mr Forrest said Townsville, with a large indigenous community, "has the opportunity to be a key partner in the battle to end indigenous disadvantage and to reap the economic and social benefits".
