Terri Caldwell wants to be someone a young person might look up to
Terri Caldwell wants to be someone a young person might look up to, and as a recent graduate with a Certificate IV in Education she is certainly headed in the right direction.
Terri is a 28-year-old Aboriginal mum of three young children and is keen to one day become a teacher with plans to study her Diploma in 2012 when her youngest child starts school.
“One day I would love to be a teacher. I might do more study when the kids are older,” Terri said.
“The kids need someone they look up to. I want them to say ‘she studied while she had three kids and now she has a good job’.
“You can do it, no matter what the circumstances.”
Terri began her working career in childcare but soon learnt the long hours were not good for a growing family.
When the opportunity came along to study through RATEP, Terri jumped at the chance.
“It was surprisingly not difficult,” she said.
“The support that is offered is brilliant.”
