Marcellina Adams - Weipa
Marcellina Adams has always dreamed of becoming a teacher
Marcellina Adams has always dreamed of becoming a teacher and now is just one step away from realising her ambition thanks to RATEP.
Marcellina, 20, recently completed her Diploma of Education and is planning to begin studying a Bachelor degree in 2011. She already works as a teacher aide but the young mum wants to go all the way with her education.
“My family are very proud of me – I am the second grandchild to finish high school and go onto further education,” Marcellina said. “I grew up in this community and I want to stay here and give something back.”
Marcellina completed her Certificate III while in Year 11 and the Certificate IV while in Year 12. She then took two years off to concentrate on raising her son before jumping back into her Diploma studies and now forging ahead with her university degree.
“RATEP is the only option for me. I grew up in Weipa and moving away was just not an option,” she said. “I had looked into it but it just wasn’t going to work. “
The passionate student already works at the local school as a teacher aide and will start the New Year as an assistant teacher.
“RATEP has given me so many more opportunities and I’ll be able to earn more money too,” she said.
